Jim Clifton began his real estate finance career in 1978 by joining the largest mortgage brokerage company in the country Sonnenblick-Goldman. As a Vice President of the firm, he placed hundreds of millions of dollars of debt financing.

In 1983, Jim entered into commercial development as a Partner of The Bob Cook Company, a Sacramento region real estate development firm. After putting together 22 parcels in downtown Sacramento, he oversaw the $65,000,000 financing, development and completion of the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

He then helped structure and place the first private sector bond financing of a privately owned sports facility, the Arco Arena, with no participation from the public sector. The partnership  developed multiple shopping centers, office buildings and restaurants.

As a principal of Mayer & Clifton, he contributes over 30 years of commercial real estate development and lending expertise to the firm.

Jim enjoys taking on partner responsibilities as the lead in closing multiple lending transactions per year.

Mr. Clifton received a B.A. degree from the University of California, Davis, in 1967.
